I just upgraded to 6.0U1 and I'm running into some issues with the web client for some users (non-admins). This is a clean install of 6.0U1. My permissions are controlled via AD groups which I set on the folders. From what I can tell, the issues below are known issues but I'm not sure the best way to work around them.
I have these problems at the moment:
1) Users don't see power on operations in web client task try. The little icon for the VM doesn't seem to update so it's not clear the VM was powered on but it does.
2) I have one user who sees an empty inventory in the web client. Other users had the issue but I discovered I had to add the read-only permission on the cluster and then they were ok but it doesn't seem to fix the problem for one user (windows client is fine though)
3) Sometimes users get the following error:
The "Power on virtual machine" operation failed for the entity with the following error message. Virtual machine cannot be found.
Long story short, I created a new AD group, added existing AD groups to this new "all" group, then adding the "all" group to the data center object seems to fix everything.
The problem is that adding permission at such a high level seems to allow people to see a lot of things they shouldn't see. The only solution I can see is to live with it, or have to go and put a ton permissions on other vm folders with the no-access role.
Is there a better way or is this just a known issue with the web client I'm stuck with until VMware fixes it?
Thanks
