Hi all,

Trying to install and external PSC appliance 6.0 u1.  Put in the info and click next to start the install and it sits there for a few minutes and fails.  At the bottom of the vcsa_0000.log is the following:

2015-11-20 09:35:40.590700 --prop:guestinfo.cis.appliance.time.tools-sync=True

2015-11-20 09:35:40.590700 --prop:guestinfo.cis.clientlocale=en

2015-11-20 09:35:40.590700 --targetSSLThumbprint=*

2015-11-20 09:38:40.857317 Progress Controller: [VCSA ERROR] - Progress callback error

2015-11-20 09:46:53.767685 Progress Controller: Closing the installation wizard

Not sure what the issue is here.  I Googled the error and got nothing.

Maintenance mode will not do vmotion (HA enabled cluster)

Hi

I have a cluster that consist of 6 hosts where manual vmotion works fine, but when I put my hosts in Maintenance mode, it just doesn't vmotion the vm's to the other hosts in the cluster. This problem started after we had some major network problems and every host have been rebooted after the network problem was solved. I've done vmkping and looked in different logs without finding any clues. Any idea on how to fix this (so that I can update to Update 2 without putting to much manual work into it)?

Importing OVA into VCSA 6.5 fails - The operation failed for an unknown reason

$

I'm trying to import an OVA via the vSphere Flash Client. The VCSA is running 6.5 GA, however I@m getting the following error.

The SSL certificate is imported and as you can see from the attached screenshot, there are no SSL warnings in the browser.

The VCSA was configured with the IP as it's system name. I think there is another issue and the SSL warning is just a guess at the problem.

Has anyone else seen this behavior before? The particular OVA file imported fine with 6.0. I'm unable to import it via ESXi because it needs to be done via the VC due to an error trying it that way earlier.

The operation failed for an undetermined reason. Typically this problem occurs due to certificates that the browser does not trust. If you are using self-signed or custom certificates, open the URL below in a new browser tab and accept the certificate, then retry the operation.

vCenter 5.1 performance tab "no data available"

Hi All

I have a problem with the peformance tab not showing any data for VMs & hosts. I have done a fair bit of searching on this problem and not found an answer yet. My thoughts is that its a vCenter database problem because when I login directly to an ESXi host I can get the performance stats from the tab in question.

I have recently upgraded our three ESXi hosts from 5.0 to 5.1 build 838463 and created an new copy of vCenter 5.1 and connected the hosts to the new copy of vCenter. As far as I know the performace stats were working on 5.0 and looks like they have stopped working after the upgrade. I upgraded the hosts using update manager and installed the ISO image from Dell that included the VIB for hardware monitoring.

Environment:

3x Dell R710, 128GB RAM each

ESXi 5.1 Build 838463 Enterprise Plus

vCenter 5.1 build 880146 Standard

Please let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions, I have attached a screenshot of the graphs showing no data.

Andrew

vCenter Server Appliance checking for update hangs

Hey all,

I just wanted to update a vCSA appliance. Unfortunately it hangs in the status "Checking for aivailable updates..." as has no internet access.

I changed the settings to CD-ROM  updates, mounted the update-repo iso and restarted the appliance, but no luck, it's still in the checking for updates mode.

Anyone has an idea how to stop this process? As the check and install update buttons are disabled during the update search.

Thanks

Windows License on ESXi

Hi,

Apologies if this isnt the correct place for this. Basically we are trying to sort out our licensing on our ESXI Cluster

We have 6 x ESXI Hosts with 4 Processors each (6 Cores)

Im being told by Software Provider that If I build a Windows 2008 Standrd Server and it has 1 vcpu and 1 core that I need to purchase a 4 processor license for it as its hosted an 4 Processor ESXI Host. Same can be said if I build a Virutal Machine that 4 vcpu and 6 cores i also need to buy a 4 PROC License,

Is your guys experience in this correct,

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks

Unable to change vCenter 6 web client (or SSO?) URI

$

Hi there,

I have upgraded my Windows vCenter 5.5 to version 6. I accessed the VC by going to https://vc.domain.com, after upgrading to version 6, it redirects me after clicking on "login to web client" to https://vcenter/websso/SAML2/SSOSSL?RelyingPartyEntityId=id (since vCenter is it's hostname). I have tried numerous things, under which:

* Change sso.properties file to match the correct URI

* Change the content of C:\ProgramData\VMware\vCenterServer\cfg\vmware-vpx\vpxd.cfg

* Change the settings from the advanced settings in VMware web client (from the vCenter itself):

     config.vpxd.sso.admin.uri

     config.vpxd.sso.groupcheck.uri

     config.vpxd.sso.sts.uri

But all of these RESET on every vCenter reboot, so the settings are never truly applied.

Am I missing anything?

Having issues adding ESXi host to vCenter Server Appliance

$

I've been spending lots of time working on the new vCenter 5.1.0A.

I have two vCenter environments in my test and dev.

vCenter1 = Windows 2008 R2 vCenter server. It has local domain Microsoft CA self signed certificates as per following Derek Seamans blog http://derek858.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/vmware-vcenter-51-installation-part-1.html. I can add ESXi hosts to this vCenter no problems. These ESXi hosts have local domain Microsoft CA self signed certificates.

vCenter2 = VMware vCenter Server Appliance. It has local domain Microsoft CA self signed certificates as per following Doug Baer's blog http://www.goitpartners.com/blog/?p=662. I CANNOT add ESXi hosts to this vCenter when they have local domain Microsoft CA self signed certificates. I CAN add an ESXi host only if I have NOT done anything with the certificates.

The error I get is:

License not available to perform the operation.
License file download from blade001.xxx.yyy to vCenter Server failed due to exception: vim.fault.SSLVerifyFault.

I've attached the screenshot "unable to add host to ESXi - custom cert.png" that shows this.

When I add an ESXi host that has NOT had the certificate replaced, I get prompted that it is unable to verify the authenticity of the host and asks me to veryify the thumbprint. I click yes to verify and the host is added successfully.

I've attached the screenshot "Adding host blade002 with default cert.png" that shows this.

So this is really puzzling. When a host has a replaced certificate, the thumbpring MUST be verified by the vCenter Appliance because I DO NOT get prompted about the authenticity of the host.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

The one thing I really want to make clear is:

  • I can add the ESXi host with replaced certificates to a vCenter 5.1.0A server running on Windows 2008 R2 (vCenter1)
  • This then confirms with me that there is nothing wrong with the certificate on the ESXi host
  • I remove the host from vCenter1
  • I try and add the host to vCenter2 (Appliance) and I get the error, the host never gets added to vCenter

Web client doesn't show storage devices or paths

When I click on a host, manage, storage and then storage adapters, I don't see anything on the Devices or Paths tabs when clicking on an HBA. I've tried both the 5.1 and 5.5 web clients, with Chrome and IE. The information shows up fine in the C# client.

Any thoughts?

Change iSCSI Controller of virtual vCenter Server

$

0

I have a possible solution to this but wondering if anyone had a better idea?

I have a vCenter server which is a virtual machine hosted on a VMware 5.0 U3 platform (4 Host HA cluster). The SCSI controller for this server is an 'LSI Logic SAS' and I would like to change this to 'Paravirtual'.

Now the procedure for this is to add a 1MB (VM best practice says 1GB why?) disk on a different iscsi bus using the paravirtual SCSI controller, then shutdown the VM, remove 1MB disk and change the original SCSI controller type to Paravirtual. Simples Right?

Ok, so you add you 1MB disk on a paravirtual SCSI controller and shutdown the VM but wait a minute... its running you vcentre! DOH! now you cant make any changes and your vcentre is down... mmmm. OK log into the host running the vCenter server and make the changes there right? wrong! The host is being controlled by the vcentre server and VMware gives you a lovely error message that "resources for this virtual machine can only be done from <Ip_address of vcentre server you just shut down>.... How infuriating! At least you can power-on you vCenter server I guess

So your vCenter server is now backup at least and you just spent ten minutes and caused a brief outage to you vCenter server with no result.

The only way I can get arround this is by creating a clone of my vCenter server and during the process use the 'Edit Hardware Settings' Experimental to change the SCSI controller. But really?

Can anyone else help me think around this issue?

All help greatly appreciated

I'm getting these errors when i try to install vCenter 6.0

Posts like this:

Suggest that DNS is the problem.  I'm using a home router as my DNS server and it doesn't allow you to manually update DNS records.  How can I complete the install without changing my router?  There has to be a way to install vCenter Server without a dependency on DNS...

Can't change virtual machine settings!

Hello

I have recently upgraded our VMware estate to 5.5, however we use a virtual machine as the VSphere server. This has caused an issue because I have upgraded the VMware hardware to V10 and I would like to change the VM's settings...however if you power off the vm (to change the settings) I lose web management (because it is hosted from the VSphere server) and I cant use the Windows "fat client" to change the settings because you get the following error message "You cannot use the VSphere client to edit the settings of virtual machines of version 10 or higher, use the VSphere Web Client to edit the settings of this machine"

It is a complete catch 22

Any advice?

vCenter 6.5 shows 503 a few minutes after startup

$

Hallo,

we just installed a latest 6.5 vCenter on Windows 2012R2 with the latest patches.

Memory 16 GB / 4 Cores in a ESXi 6.0 VM, plenty of HD memory free.

The first few days the server worked very well. Without any changes it begun to get more and more unresponsive.

Finally we can't work anymore with it. After restart it is now not responding anymore. See below ...

After startup is finished the Web Client shows the following message.

URL: https://192.168.2.10/

503 Service Unavailable (Failed to connect to endpoint: [class Vmacore::Http::NamedPipeServiceSpec:0x000000d54dcd5ef0] _serverNamespace = / action = Allow _pipeName =\\.\pipe\vmware-vpxd-webserver-pipe)

The URL: https://192.168.2.10/vsphere-client/?csp

Show the login screen:

After login, the mask (sectioned screen, On the left "Hosts and Clusters" is selected by default.) without content in the white areas, appears. It never fills (waited 30 minutes).

On top a message says:

"Es konnte keine Verbindung zu einem oder mehreren vCenter Server-Systemen hergestellt werden:

https://vCenter.test.com:443/sdk"

When I go to this url I get this message:

503 Service Unavailable (Failed to connect to endpoint: [class Vmacore::Http::LocalServiceSpec:0x000000c10f8bf5d0] _serverNamespace = /sdk action = Allow _port = 8085)

Going to Home (Button on top) shows the expected screen.

But "Hosts and Clusters" does not respond.

All other Menues on the left do work.

Memory consumption is 7,5GB of 16GB, no load on CPU (4%).

-------

I triple checked all hosts files and IP addresses.

I checked vsphere_client_virgo.log and found many exceptions.

Dear VMware Community!

I don't have any web interface after install. Could you help me to solve this issue?

I installed successfully VMware-ESXi-5.5.0, and then downloaded and deployed VMware-vCenter-Server-Appliance-5.5.0.5101-1398493.

This is nmap scan results of vCenter Server Appliance:
Starting Nmap 6.40 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2013-11-18 10:47 Środkowoeuropejski czas stand.
Host is up (0.00s latency).
Not shown: 96 closed ports
PORT     STATE    SERVICE
22/tcp   open     ssh
135/tcp  filtered msrpc
8009/tcp filtered ajp13
8080/tcp filtered http-proxy
MAC Address: 00:0C:29:A1:86:C9 (VMware)
Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 0.86 seconds

I hope that some of you faced with this problem, because I can't find a solution!:-)

In attached file you can find screenshot form console.

Cheers!

By the way, from default virtual machine hardware version is 7, I upgraded it to 10 but without any change.

Hi all,

Trying to install and external PSC appliance 6.0 u1.  Put in the info and click next to start the install and it sits there for a few minutes and fails.  At the bottom of the vcsa_0000.log is the following:

2015-11-20 09:35:40.590700 --prop:guestinfo.cis.appliance.time.tools-sync=True

2015-11-20 09:35:40.590700 --prop:guestinfo.cis.clientlocale=en

2015-11-20 09:35:40.590700 --targetSSLThumbprint=*

2015-11-20 09:38:40.857317 Progress Controller: [VCSA ERROR] - Progress callback error

2015-11-20 09:46:53.767685 Progress Controller: Closing the installation wizard

Not sure what the issue is here.  I Googled the error and got nothing.
