Hi,
I just installed vmware vCenter Server on Windows Server 2012 but Vmware services not started so I cannot connect to the vcenter via vClient.
When I try to start VMware services manually I get an error "Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."
Please help
Thanks,
I am not able to login to the vSphere Web Client or full client when the username contains spaces. I was able to figure this out after some troubleshooting.
I created a user named "Testing" and it logs in just fine, so I renamed it to "Testing Test" and I am no longer able to login.
Anyone else seeing this?
VMware vCenter Server Appliance 5.5.0.5101 Build 1398493
I'm prepping for a vSphere upgrade to 5.5 and reading through the vCenter upgrade documentation, but I can't find anything about what happens to the current database during the upgrade. I have 4 hosts and around 40 VMs, so it's a small environment with the SQL Express. Does the database get upgraded using the vCenter simple install, or will I need to import it after the 5.5 installation? I've already upgraded the instances.
For that matter, what exactly does the db hold? The server is not in AD (plan to join it after the upgrade), and we don't have any custom users. What would I lose if the database is overwritten?
Thanks.
Sorry, I'm new at this and I'm having a problem installing vCenter 5.1a on Windows Server 2008 R2 using the simple install. After completing the install without any errors, I start up the vSphere Web Client, log in and it comes up with no vCenter servers and a message that says "To get started install either a vCenter Server system or obtain access permission to an existing vCenter Server system." I'm on my 4th time though and it's consistant in result, so I figure I should ask.
If it matters, the Windows Server is not a member of Active Directory, the DNS works forward and reverse, I tried both the IP address and the fqdn.
I'm not sure where to being troubleshooting this. This is my first vCenter installation. I've checked all of the services and they are running.
I have looked at some log files and it seems pretty clear that something is trying to talk to something and is being refused, but I have no idea why.
Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks

I am doing this in a test lab.
I have AD setup with domain xxxx.local and the Windows Server to be the vcenter is joined to the domain.
My issue is that when i choose to install SSO (fresh) it detects it is joined to the domain, forward / reverse look up works just fine, BUT at the next window it for some reason brings to set password for administrator in the "vsphere.local" domain. That portion is grayed out and i have no idea where this "vsphere.local" is coming into the picture. If ANYONE can advise me on this, please advise. Much appreciated.
Hi
I'm using vCenter 5.5 with WEB vSphere GUI to take a snapshot of a RHEL 5.4 32 based VM on a ESXi 5.5. When I choose the "Quiesce the guest file system" instead of the "snapshot the virtual machine memory", the snapshot creation failed at 90% with "An error occurred while taking a snapshot: Failed to quiesce the virtual machine" .
I have no problem using the "snapshot the virtual machine memory" option to create the snapshot.
Your help is appreciated

Configuration: vCenter Virtual Appliance running 5.1.0. 2 x identical ESXi hosts running 5.0U1. VCVA is running on ESXi host 'a'.
Symptom: vCenter complains of a disconnect in communication with the host, but automatically reconnects after a moment. ESXi hosts do not experience any issues - no reboots, no interruption to running VMs on them or connections to applications on the VMs. Have not been able to find any seemingly relevant messages in the logs on either ESXi hosts.
Times of events:
Oct 30, 3:07PM - disconnect from host 'b', automatically reconnected after a moment
Nov 6, 10:35PM - disconnect from host 'a', automatically reconnected after a moment
Nov 20, 8:00AM - disconnect from host 'a', automatically reconnected after a moment
The key errors that I've located are in the vCenter vpxd.log files. Same pattern of messages for each occurrence (didn't see these messagea at any other time).
Does anyone have any ideas as to what service is connecting to what, or where I might look for further information regarding this issue? I've not come up with any useful KB articles or discussion posts regarding these messages.
Any ideas would be appreciated!

I recently did a fresh install of vCenter 5.5, and then upgraded my hosts to 5.5 from 5.0 and moved them into the new vCenter. I have noticed a slight problem with vCenter. I can log into it without any issues using the web client. It logs in the first time I try every time. However, when I try to log into the same vCenter server with the Windows "fat" client, it has problems logging in, and I have to try several (5-10 times or more) before it will finally log in. It gives the following error:
"The vSphere Client could not connect to "<vCenter>". The server '<vCenter>' took too long to respond. (The command has timed out as the remote server is taking too long to respond.)"
I am not sure why the web client logs in without a problem while the Windows client is very hit-and-miss with getting in. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
I am trying to get vCenter 5 installed on Windows 2008 R2 sever
Sql express 2008 R2 installed
When I try to connect to install it I receive:
Could not connect to database with specified JDBC URL
I also tried to install it attaching to a 2005 express DB with the same error.
Any ideas
Trying to run Dell's dpack by connecting to our vcenter server.
I add our vcenter URL and after trying to connect I receive:
"Failed to connect with the VMware VCenter Server 'https://vcenter/sdk/vimService' "
Turned off windows firewall, checked the SDK URL (VirtualCenter.VimApiUrl) in vcenter settings. Not sure what else to check.
Ideas? thanks
Hi,
I have upgraded our vCenter from 5.5a to 5.5b and now every "old" system-domain user is having an empty inventory in the web client. In the standalone client everything is fine.
When I create a new user, everything is fine.
I have noticed an error message on top of the web client after log in with an old user: "Failed to initialize start-up services."
On the getting started screen of the home screen there is following information: "To get started, either install a vCenter Server system, or obtain access permission to an existing vCenter Server system."
Again, when I log in with a new created user, everything is fine.
old users are having "xxx@system-domain", new users "xxx@vsphere.local"
How can I get the old users back to their servers using the web client?
TIA
Sascha
Hi,
I got problem that Web Client is not able to connect to vCenter. It is showing message:

type Status report

I have tried to restart Web Clent Server but not helped.
Please help!
Hi Everyone
I have three hosts on my vcenter, however I can't seem to move any VMs into a resource pool as I get the following error(for example):
Move into resource pool SALES Cannot complete operation due to concurrent modification by another operation.
Any ideas? I can move VMs around on the other two hosts without a problem. The only difference is that the problematic host is running ESXi version 5.1.0 1065491, the others are running 5.1.0 799733
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks!
I have a vCenter server problem. It was working fine last week, this week I could not connect.
I think it is a problem with VMwareVCMSDS, because in the vpx-xx.log files it was complaining about starting this LDAP service. I have rejoined the server to the domain, checked credentials and granted full to all administrators, even Everyone on the folder that contains the .DIT file. None of these have resolved the issue.
I see also VMware Virtual Center Management Webserver service is not starting.
Some of my errors include:
Event ID 1000
The description for Event ID 1000 from source VMware VirtualCenter Server cannot be found.
Event ID 7023
The VMwareVCMSDS service terminated with the following error:
%%-1073741823
Event ID 7024
The VMware VirtualCenter Server service terminated with service-specific error The system cannot find the file specified..
SQL services seem to be running OK.
Version: VMware VirtualCenter 5.1.0 build-880146
Any suggestions? I'm running out of ideas.
Thank you
Our environment is vCenter 4.1 U1 and ESXi 4.1 U1. We have a multi-tenant Lab environment where users are isolated with separate Resource Pools and separate VM, Storage, and Network folders. The users are administrators to all of these.
They want to be able to deploy OVA/OVF templates but, they get this error (attached image) at this point. I'd like to know the minimum permissions required to allow this without exposing other tenants resources.
