Hi,

is there a way to force the Client Integration Plugin in Google Chrome?

The users should not receive a query from CIP on the first start.

This is a new VCSA 6.5 adn the domain is almost new.

When trying to add the VCSA to Active Directory it is reporting:

Idm client exception: Error trying to join AD, error code [41887], user [administrator@domain], domain [domain.com], orgUnit [Computers]

Have not found a message that will help me with this error.

Tried to do it from the cli using SSH but it failed also.

vCenter Server 6.5 503 Service Unavailable and don't see vSphere Web client service

All -

I installed vCenter Server 6.5 successfully a few months ago and it was working fine. Now I get this error in a web browser:

503 Service Unavailable (Failed to connect to endpoint: [class Vmacore::Http::NamedPipeServiceSpec:0x000000a052fbb510] _serverNamespace = / action = Allow _pipeName =\\.\pipe\vmware-vpxd-webserver-pipe) .

I have seen many people referring to the vSphere Web Client Service but just do not see that as an installed service. Event logs show nothing. All vmware

services are running. Also an ODBC connection to the SQL server tests okay.

What happened???

vCenter Server Appliance checking for update hangs

$

Hey all,

I just wanted to update a vCSA appliance. Unfortunately it hangs in the status "Checking for aivailable updates..." as has no internet access.

I changed the settings to CD-ROM  updates, mounted the update-repo iso and restarted the appliance, but no luck, it's still in the checking for updates mode.

Anyone has an idea how to stop this process? As the check and install update buttons are disabled during the update search.

Thanks

Tim

Need to Disable SSL V3 - How can I disable it? Is it required?

The SSL protocol 3.0 design error, uses nondeterministic CBC padding, which makes it easier for man-in-the-middle attacks (POODLE) Additional information: (CVE-2014-3566)An unauthorised user who can take a man-in-the-middle (MitM) position can exploit this vulnerability and gain access to encrypted communication between a client and server. It is recommended to disable SSLv3 support to avoid this vulnerability.

vmotion times out at 20%

Situation is this...

vSphere 6

I have about a dozen VMs that fail at 20% when trying to vmotion. VMware Tools is up to date. I have three hosts in a cluster and the problem is not specific to any one host. I have cloned these VMs and the issues persists on the clones suggesting the problem is with a VM config or possibly within the guest OS. Most of the VMs on these host are not experiencing any issues during vmotion. The physical network is good.

vCenter 6 'Empty Inventory' due to permissions

$

I have a fully functional, completely working vCenter 6 environment. Admin users can log in and see the entire inventory, as they're supposed to.

However, I have a number of business users that need restricted permissions in a subfolder in the inventory. I have added a new role to vCenter with the permissions they need, and applied that role for that user to the specific subfolder.

Now: those users are not supposed to see any other folders in the inventory tree above of on the same level in the tree, just their own folder.

Before I upgraded to vCenter 6 (appliance), I had it working fine. With vCenter 6, this model broke: the users only see the 'empty inventory' text in the 'VMs and Templates' view.

Weird thing is: when that same user browses to 'vCenter Inventory Lists', clicks 'Virtual Machines', he sees his own (and only his own) VM and can interact with it in accordance with his permissions.

So it seems there's a new permission needed in vCenter to see only that part of the Inventory tree applicable to a specific user, but I (1) haven't found that permission yet and (2) wouldn't even know to which object in the tree to assign the permission

Any thoughts?

The VMware vCenter Inventory Service service terminated with service-specific error Incorrect function..

Tried connecting into the web interface and it states it cannot connect to the inventory server.  I see the service is stopped and when I try to start it, it fails.  Error message in event log: The VMware vCenter Inventory Service service terminated with service-specific error Incorrect function..

I have rebooted the server and had the same issue.  I have a backup of the SQL/server but I have never ran the backup.bat as referred to in here: VMware KB: vCenter Inventory Service fails to start and cannot back up the Inventory Service database

I cannot seem to find a great article on what will be impacted by resetting the service fresh?

VCSA 6.0 VMware Content Library Service

It seems as though the Content Library Service has up and vanished from my vCenter Services. I created a content library back in April. I went to delete and add an online library I built and it wouldn't work. I dug around and did some homework and found where the core services were. I used a BASH shell command to try and start it. I figured it wouldn't work, but here is what it spit back.

Has anyone had issues with their content library before?

VCSA 6.5 loses IP address after reboot

$

I was investigating the new HA feature for the 6.5 Appliance in our dev/test environment and have run into a weird problem.  Somewhere in attempting to do a manual deployment the primary appliance had its primary network interface (eth0) deleted.  The second vnic that you add for the HA network (eth1) was retained.  I have re-added an eth0 interface however this interface won't keep its IP configuration across reboots.  I am using the configuration tool in /opt/VMware/share/vami/vami_config_net to set things up, and everything appears to go smoothly.  However after a reboot I notice the configuration file it created in /etc/system/network is renamed from 10-eth0.network to 10-eth0.network.manual and the eth0 interface is once again unconfigured.  The contents of the file are still correct, but the interface is down.

What is renaming the 10-eth0.network file?  How do I stop it?  How do I get this thing to remember settings across a reboot?  Any ideas?

Thanks.

VCenter System Memory Alert Hardware Status Tab

There is a "system memory Alert" in the hardware status tab of my VCenter, there is no problem with the hardware because I enter the IBM's IMM (Integrated Managment Module) and the server does NOT indicate a fault in the DIMM or memory slots or something that indicates a physical memory problem.

At this point my guess it's a VMware problem, but as I log on directly to the ESX Host, there is no such alert in the Configuration>Health Status section, I reset the managment services thinking it's some kind of VCenter-ESX Host problem, but the alarm continues in the VCenter

The Alarm it's a root directory on the DIMM's section as you can see at the screenshot...Snapshot1.JPG

VM permission to allow only mounting of an iso in local datastore.

I have a set of limted users who are only given the 'power options and media' permissions to their specific VM's and nothing else.  They can get to do what they need; however, I have a need to let them edit the cd settings and mount an .iso file directly out of the local datastore on the esx host.

They also get permission denied when its set to "Client Device" and hit the button to mount their local CD.

I would prefer to mount the .iso from the 'Datastore ISO file" but it would suffice to get the "Client Device" working.

I have tried to give datatstore browse and modify device settings but they do not ungrey the browse next to the mounting of iso file.  Manual type in doesnt work either.  I still want to limit them without giving administrator access.

Maintenance mode will not do vmotion (HA enabled cluster)

Hi

I have a cluster that consist of 6 hosts where manual vmotion works fine, but when I put my hosts in Maintenance mode, it just doesn't vmotion the vm's to the other hosts in the cluster. This problem started after we had some major network problems and every host have been rebooted after the network problem was solved. I've done vmkping and looked in different logs without finding any clues. Any idea on how to fix this (so that I can update to Update 2 without putting to much manual work into it)?

Remove vSphere Web Client Evaluation Mode License

$

We recently installed vCenter Server Appliance to replace the existing vCenter server.  It automatically installs a Evaluation Mode license and then gives warnings that licenses are about to expire.  Since we already own an Enterprise license, we added these licenses to the new vCenter server and then added the existing hosts to the new vCenter server.  The hosts were added to the correct license key and the vCenter server was added to the correct license key.  The Evaluation Mode license now has a 0 usage.  Everything is working correctly except that the eval license is still sitting there and we are still getting warnings.  It appears that the only way to get rid of this is to upgrade the eval license to a purchased license, but we don't need to upgrade since we already have a valid Enterprise license.

How can we remove the eval license and remove the warnings that this is generating?

What keeps turning off SSH on my hosts?

So inherited an environment running 5.1 (vCenter and ESXi)

I have one cluster that is I enable SSH from the security profile, it gets turned back off within a few minutes. This does not happen with new hosts I have added to that cluster or in any other cluster.

There are no host profiles, the hosts are NOT in lockdown mode. No scheduled tasks other than update mgr checks.

When I look at the events after its turned back off the user listed is the dcui@127.0.0.1 and shows it turning it off.

Migration Error: pbm.fault.PBMFault.summary

Currently have an ESX 4.1 server which I'm trying to migrate my VM from to a ESXi 5.5 server.  When I try to migrate I get a pbm.fault.PBMFault.summary with no additional information.  Logged into my vCenter server via vSphere Client.

Ideas?
