VCSA 6 install error - Supplied name not valid

When installing a second vCenter I keep running into the errors:

1. Firstboot script execution error.

2. The supplied System Name vcenter-01.domain.local is not valid.

3. If the supplied system name is a FQDN, then make sure the DNS forward lookup results in at least one valid IP address in the system. If the supplied system name is an IP address, then it should be one of the valid IP address(es) in the system.

This is a second vCenter install I am working on. I installed a vCenter 6 appliance with the psc and vCenter in our DR creating creating the vsphere.local (we are installing new hardware and moving from 5.0) just fine. At our Prod site I am running the appliance iso using a newly setup esxi 6 u1 host. I join the SSO site and create a new site name or join the existing, I am using a dvgroup with a Ephemeral port on the dvSwitch. I have triple checked the DNS settings. There is a host and pointer record for the esxi 6 host and appliance, I can run a nslookup from multiple machines with no issues.

Any thoughts as I am stuck.

VCSA 6.7 - vpxd doesn't start after replacing machine SSL certs

Creating a new VCSA 6.5.0 vm using win32 GUI.

After installation completed, I want to replace machine SSL certificates using HTML5 webgui.

I imported Terena CA and then replaced machine SSL cert (key & crt). After rebooting, all works fine.

Deleting this VM, and creating a new VCSA 6.7 VM using win32 GUI and exactly the same paramaters as before (fqdn, ip, ...). DNS entries are ok (FQDN to IP & IP to FQDN).

After installation completed, I imported the same certificate as before. After rebooting, when I try to access the web GUI, I've got the following error :

Either using webgui or cli for replacing the machine certificate, vpxd doesn't launch after.

Are there new prerequisites for installing a custom SSL certificate since 6.7.0 ?

VCSA 6.5 to 6.7 Upgrade pre-check warning

I have two embedded VCSA appliances in embedded linked mode.  They are 6.5 U3a.  I'm trying to upgrade them to 6.7.  I'm using the 6.7 ISO 15132721 build.  On both of them I get

warning - Unable to retrieve replication status of the partners

resolution - Make sure vmdir service is reachable and started in partner nodes and this node before continuing

I've checked, and the vmdir service is running on both of them.  ./vdcrepadmin -f showpartnerstatus indicates Partner is 0 changes behind on both.  I've restarted both VCSAs.  I've not opened a support ticket on this yet

vCenter Server 6.5 Download

Hello,

I'm starting the learning process on the VMWare platform with a home lab setup. ESXI 6.5 is installed on my server and I am able to successfully manage the system via the web interface. However, I'd like to explore some of the options present in the vCenter Server application. However, I'm unable to locate the correct download for this product.

Pressing the "Get vCenter Server" button from the ESXI web interface does not direct to the correct link.

Browsing through the downloads page seems to be the correct location but I do not have permissions to download: https://my.vmware.com/en/group/vmware/downloads/details?downloadGroup=VC65U3K&productId=614&rPId=50173

Message: You either are not entitled or do not have permissions to download this product. Check with your My VMware Super User, Procurement Contact or Administrator. If you recently purchased this product thorugh VMware Store or through a third party, try downloading later.

I'm looking for help in 1 of 2 ways:

1. Describe how to obtain permissions required for downloading the product from the link below

2. If the link below is not the right approach, please redirect me to a download location for the client interface that I install on my desktop PC.

Download Link I tried:

vCenter 7 appliance update repo - error

cannot access appliance manager - unable to authenticate

$

I'm not sure exactly, but shouldn't the password on port 5480 (for vmware appliace management) be the same as the one I'm using on the vsphere webclient? It simply won't work. I keep getting "Unable to authenticate. Try again."

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I also simply tried "root" and "vmware" as password, thinking that it might require different credentials (which might not have been changed) than the vsphere webclient.

If I connect to the server through ssh, it works with the same credentials I'm using on the webclient, but the shell is disabled (not sure why or how I can enable it - maybe by accessing the shell I might be able to change the appliance management credentials).

Any ideas? Thanks!

migrate storage fails with 'cannot connect to host'

I'm trying to migrate the storage of a virtual machine to a different datastore. (on the same san)

When I start the job I see the task :

Relocating virtual machine / Status 'In Progress'

After 10 minutes I get 2 popups :

-

Error

-

Cannot connect to host.

-

OK

-

I tried to move the storage from a different virtual machine, but I got the same error.

Also tried from a different vmhost (but same cluster) but also the same error.

When trying from a host in a different cluster It works without problems (same san/datastore used in the cluster where I got the errors)

There are no difference in the security profile on the hosts.

Any hints ?

I searched lots of places vcenter OVF or OVA file. But unfortunately i can't find any where this file. Kindly Advise.

I installed a new copy of vCenter 6.5.0. One host added. While installing VDP appliance, vSphereDataProtection-6.1.3.ova, I get the following error

The deploy asked for all the deployment details, where, DNS, IPs, etc. then ran a few minutes to about 65% completion when error occurred.

vCenter Server 5.5 fails to start after server reboot

I am testing vSphere 5.5 in our lab and I am experiencing some issues with vCenter Server or SSO. After a fresh install all works about fine, I can add AD authentication to SSO and AD login works to vSphere Client. I was having issues with vCenter Orchestator login so I rebooted vCenter Server VM. After a Windows reboot vCenter Server is no longer starting, it tries to start but SSO fails and vCenter Server process shuts down. Below is a snippet from vpxd.log with relevant output.

Domain Controller is Windows Server 2012.

vCenter Server and SSO is on Windows Server 2008 R2.

VCSA 6.5 - Update Manager not work

Hi,

I have successfully migrated from VC 6.0 for Windows to VCSA 6.5 as I wanted to get freed Windows Server license. All is working correctly except Update Manager. I'm still getting error "VMware vSphere Update Manager had an unknown error. Check the events and log files for details." when I tried to scan for updates. I'm new to VCSA, so please which logs exactly I need to look in? on VCSA ? or ESXi itself?

Thanks

Hi all,

esxi 6.0. Is there a quick easy way to get the vms up and running without trying to gain access to the original swap file location?

thank you!!!

vCenter v6.7u3 openLDAP LDAPS SSO

$

Hello:

I've been attempting to configure vCenter v6.7u3 to use an openLDAP server as a SSO using LDAPS and in the process been unsuccessful. The main problem is that vCenter will establish a tls connection and verify the certificate signatures, but will then close the connection immediately.

Here is an excerpt from when trying to submit the SSO configuration:

af4d4d42-75c4-403b-bdad-79f976bfd9a8 INFO  com.vmware.identity.interop.ldap.SslX509EqualityMatchVerificationCallback] Server SSL certificate is a trusted certificate.

af4d4d42-75c4-403b-bdad-79f976bfd9a8 WARN  com.vmware.identity.interop.ldap.LdapErrorChecker] Error received by LDAP client: com.vmware.identity.interop.ldap.OpenLdapClientLibrary, error code: -1

af4d4d42-75c4-403b-bdad-79f976bfd9a8 WARN  com.vmware.identity.idm.server.ServerUtils] cannot bind connection: [ldaps://10.10.35.31, cn=admin,dc=example,dc=com]

af4d4d42-75c4-403b-bdad-79f976bfd9a8 ERROR com.vmware.identity.idm.server.ServerUtils] cannot establish connection with uri: ldaps://10.10.35.31

openLDAP logs show the vCenter establishing a tls connection and them promptly losing the connection.

With openssl s_client, I can connect to the port with the certificates I provide, but I can't find anything else that would be useful. I can also connect on LDAP:// as well, but I want to establish a TLS connection. Is there a particular way that the certificates should be made? I just want to get the LDAPS to work.

VCSA 7 backup via SCP

Hi Community,

I previously used SCP to backup my 6.5 VCSA to a Linux server. Looking at the documentation for v7 SCP is not mentioned any more. Has anyone come across this in their upgrades? Does it still work?

TIA,

David
