Remove ESXi host from vCenter greyed out

$

Environment:

VMware ESXi, 6.7.0, 15160138

vCenter: 6.7.0.41000 build number: 14836122

We cannot remove one crashed VMware host from our datacenter. We do not have any clusters configured. We do have a vDS. Other hosts are working fine and in production. Remove from inventory is greyed out in vCenter.

The following action I already tried:

Disconnect the host (succesfully)

Remove host from vDS (succesfully)

Remove from inventory is greyed out

Used PowerCLI but came with this error:

Remove-VMHost : 21-4-2020 08:23:16      Remove-VMHost           The method is disabled by 'com.vmware.vcIntegrity'

At line:1 char:1

+ Remove-VMHost ESXVN0XX.FQDN

Any ideas?

Upgrade vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) from 6.5 (6.5.0.23200) to 6.7U2 failed with "Unable to enumerate and validate the root certificates from the TRUSTED_ROOTS VECS store."

I have VCSA 6.5 and try to upgrade it to 6.7U2

During migration prerequsites check phase I have error "Unable to enumerate and validate the root certificates from the TRUSTED_ROOTS VECS store. Make sure that the vmafd service is reachable and started before continuing."

I have check cert store on new VCSA installation by:

service-control --status certificatemanagement

The service is running

Then I check cert store by "vecs-cli store list" and get "Unable to connect to vmafd service"

Then I check syslog and found

Error opening Certificate /etc/vmware/vmware-vmafd/machine-ssl.crt

140367761127064:error:02001002:system library:fopen:No such file or directory:bss_file.c:406:fopen('/etc/vmware/vmware-vmafd/machine-ssl.crt','r')

How I can generate machine-ssl.crt ?

PS I cannot use certificate-manager as I cannot authenticate as administrator@vsphere.local at this point of time.

UPD: I have copied /etc/vmware/vmware-vmafd/* from old VCSA but without success. "vecs-cli store list" still cannot connect to vmafd service

one command to free up space in /storage/seat

$

I was trying to free up space in '/storage/seat on my vcsa 6.5

This is not applicable for 6.5 :

vCenter Server Appliance 6.0 services fail due to 100% usage of /storage/seat disk (2119809) | VMware KB

I don't have "vpx_event" and "vpx_event_arg" table.

Instead I have "vpx_event_1" to "vpx_event_92", and "vpx_event_arg_1" to "vpx_event_arg_92".

So I ran "truncate table vpx_event_1 cascade;" for each "event" tables (184 tables!).

/storage/seat/ was back to 1%.

But there's also this command :

sudo -u postgres /opt/vmware/vpostgres/9.4/bin/vacuumdb -a -e -v -f -U postgres > /tmp/vacuumdb.log

(as suggested at the bottom of this article : http://www.settlersoman.com/how-to-reclaim-space-on-storageseat-in-vcenter-appliance-5-5-or-6-x/ )

But I don't have a "postgres" user. Is that ok ?

So I tried that :

sudo -u root /opt/vmware/vpostgres/9.4/bin/vacuumdb -a -e -v -f -U postgres > /tmp/vacuumdb.log

And entered the password returned by this command :

cat /etc/vmware-vpx/embedded_db.cfg | grep

But I don't see anything changed. Normal ?

When I tried running it before the "truncate" , there was no change to "storage/seat" either.

Thanks

VCSA 6.5 - Update Manager not work

Hi,

I have successfully migrated from VC 6.0 for Windows to VCSA 6.5 as I wanted to get freed Windows Server license. All is working correctly except Update Manager. I'm still getting error "VMware vSphere Update Manager had an unknown error. Check the events and log files for details." when I tried to scan for updates. I'm new to VCSA, so please which logs exactly I need to look in? on VCSA ? or ESXi itself?

Thanks

Applying custom certificate in vSphere 6.5 using Microsoft CA template fails and rolls back

$

Hello,

When applying a certificate using our Microsoft CA (I followed the VMware article/video on how to create a certiifcate template) to our vCenter (Windows) server, it fails and rolls back. The issue I'm getting is the same as the following discussion posted a few months back. However, there's no fix provided:certificate-manager 'lstool reregister' failed: 1 / VCSA Certificate Manager Option 1: Replace Machine SSL certificate with Custom Certificate

The error in the log:

2017-10-19T00:26:19.474Z ERROR certificate-manager Error while replacing Machine SSL Cert, please see C:\ProgramData\VMware\vCenterServer\logs\vmca\certificate-manager.log for more information.

2017-10-19T00:26:19.474Z ERROR certificate-manager 'lstool reregister' failed: 1

2017-10-19T00:26:19.476Z INFO certificate-manager Performing rollback of Machine SSL Cert...

Is there an actual fix to this that can be made available instead of me having to call VMware support?

Thanks!

vCenter Server Appliance checking for update hangs

Hey all,

I just wanted to update a vCSA appliance. Unfortunately it hangs in the status "Checking for aivailable updates..." as has no internet access.

I changed the settings to CD-ROM  updates, mounted the update-repo iso and restarted the appliance, but no luck, it's still in the checking for updates mode.

Anyone has an idea how to stop this process? As the check and install update buttons are disabled during the update search.

Thanks

VCSA 6 install error - Supplied name not valid

$

When installing a second vCenter I keep running into the errors:

1. Firstboot script execution error.

2. The supplied System Name vcenter-01.domain.local is not valid.

3. If the supplied system name is a FQDN, then make sure the DNS forward lookup results in at least one valid IP address in the system. If the supplied system name is an IP address, then it should be one of the valid IP address(es) in the system.

This is a second vCenter install I am working on. I installed a vCenter 6 appliance with the psc and vCenter in our DR creating creating the vsphere.local (we are installing new hardware and moving from 5.0) just fine. At our Prod site I am running the appliance iso using a newly setup esxi 6 u1 host. I join the SSO site and create a new site name or join the existing, I am using a dvgroup with a Ephemeral port on the dvSwitch. I have triple checked the DNS settings. There is a host and pointer record for the esxi 6 host and appliance, I can run a nslookup from multiple machines with no issues.

Any thoughts as I am stuck.

Health of Memory changed from red to green. Sensor name: Memory Device 1B 12: Uncorrectable ECC, Current state: Deassert

I have an issue where I am getting constant notification of events as below:

Health of Memory changed from red to green.  Sensor name: Memory Device 1B 12: Uncorrectable ECC, Current state: Deassert (raw value).

I have switched memory, but socket number stayed the same, so have been in contact with server manufacturer, who have replaced the memory - same event, and replaced the motherboard with a faulty motherboard, so they put the original back in.

However looking at the IDRAC and logs etc, there are no errors showing on the hardware device.

I have tried to reset the sensor in the webclient, but this has not fixed the event.

Help please?

Thank you

Messing up sendmail

Hi

It seems that I did something wrong with the sendmail configuration files via the vcenter bash. I added

define(`SMART_HOST', `our_smtp_address')dnl

to /etc/mail/sendmail.mc and then ran

# m4 sendmail.mc > sendmail.cf

# service sendmail restart

But the service log shows this error

___VMware_Conv_SA___ account automatically created in the domain

What is ___VMware_Conv_SA___ used for?  The security group for my client is concerned that this account was created in the domain and that every time they delete it, it returns.  Is it needed, why does it create this in the domain without any warning or intervention, and can it be removed permanently if it is not needed?  They are still on vCenter 4.1 and also have the VMware Standalone Converter installed on the vCenter server.  The most recent recreation of the account was during the monthly patching and reboot.  Please help me explain this account to my client.  Thanks.

Hi guys. The installation is frozen at the step 2 vCenter 7 "Starting VMware Appliance Configuration" and the message appears in esxi 7 "the guest OS configuration (other version 3.x or later Linux (64-bit) for this VM does not match the guest OS that is currently running (VMWare Photon OS (64-bit)). You must specify the correct guest OS to allow for optimization for specific guests)"

what is the problem ?

How do you view older tasks/events?  The client only allows you to go back 1000 items?  how do you see older than that ?

Thanks

Multiple Vcenter Servers.

I have 2 Vcenter servers. One is the SSO server for both. It is joined to my AD domain. If I log into it with my vsphere credentials I see both servers. If I log in with my AD credentials I only see the SSO server. I get an invalid credentials error if I try to use AD on the second server.

I have verified that the AD shows as connected on the second box and that all the same permissions are there.

A bit of background I set up the first box and did the AD join before I setup the second server.

How do I get the second box to recognize the AD logins?

vcsa management gives alert that appliance is low on memory, but webclient shows other info

$

Hello,

i am no expert, so excuse.

Yesterday, i did a fresh install of vcsa with newest aviable iso 6.7U2a (Name: VMware-VCSA-all-6.7.0-13643870.iso , Release-Datum: 2019-05-14, Build-Nummer: 13643870), using tiny installation

on a HP proliant ML110 Gen10 with esxi 6.7 (completely patched up to date).

I used tiny instalaltion (10 gb RAM).

Directly after deployment, i opened the vm appliance management site (port 5480) and checked everything. Summary --> Health Status was all green. Then, still in management site, i searched for updates via URL and downloaded and installed  the found patch (date 2019-05-30), so now the appliance has version 6.7.0.3110 (Build Number 13843380).

Then i first opened the vsphere web client and everything seemed to be ok. After creating datacenter, joining the windows domain, adding the esxi hosts to vcenter, etc, i reopned the appliance management site and saw that under Summary --> Health Status --> RAM i have following Alarm, that appliance is running low on memory and that i should add more meory to the aplliance. Monitor showed a usage of RAm of about 86%.

I went to web client again, and here it tells that vcenter is only using about 2,5GB of the 10 GB that were assigend during tiny installation.

What i did now (although i think this is useless) to reserve the whole 10gb to the vcenter RAM. But this does not change anything. At the Moment, management site tells RAm usage of 70% (low enough to not trigger Alarm in Health Status) an web client tells usage of 2,8 GB out of 10 GB.

What is going on here? Why do management and web client show totally different RAM usage?

I also have another issue:

in vcenter web client, i get a warning saying:

vsphere Health dedected new issues in your environment. Go to Monitor -> Monitor Health for a detailed description of the issues.

Is this triggreed because of the RAM Alarm in management? I dont have any warning, alerts, problems in webclient.

thank you for helping.

VCSA 6.5 to 6.7 Upgrade pre-check warning

I have two embedded VCSA appliances in embedded linked mode.  They are 6.5 U3a.  I'm trying to upgrade them to 6.7.  I'm using the 6.7 ISO 15132721 build.  On both of them I get

warning - Unable to retrieve replication status of the partners

resolution - Make sure vmdir service is reachable and started in partner nodes and this node before continuing

I've checked, and the vmdir service is running on both of them.  ./vdcrepadmin -f showpartnerstatus indicates Partner is 0 changes behind on both.  I've restarted both VCSAs.  I've not opened a support ticket on this yet
