Esxi 5: Hardware monitoring service on this host is not responding or not available

$

Hello,

Sometimes we have the phenomenon that when we open the Hardware Status Tab we can not see any information.

In return I only get the following message:

HardwareStatus.jpg

Hardware monitoring service on this host is not responding or not available

(Also the "Update"-function doesn't effect anything)

Funnily enough, it could be that in 30 minutes it will work fine.

Has anyone an idea what I can check / proof to solve this problem?

Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password

I have ESXI 5.0 vcenter and vsphere client.

My vcenter is installed on a Windows 2008 R2 ssytem.

When I log into the vsphere client with an administrator account of the vcenter windows server system I have no issue.

When I log onto vsphere client with a non-administrator account of the windows server system, I receive the following error:

Error Connecting

Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password

I believe the problem is due to a setting in secpol of the windows server system.

Does anyone know which configuration setting or key would be required to allow non-administrators access to the vcenter through vsphere client?

Thanks,

Pete

Hi all;
I get an error such as the appendix on vSphere Server. I ran into this error expanding the datastore. But on the virtual machines running normally comes at a time of error. Do not have a specific time. Can you help on this topic?

Windows Server 2008 R2 customization does not work

$

Here is what I have:

- ESXi4.1

- vCenter 4.1, brand new install

- I created a new VM (Virtual Hardware v. 7, VMXNET3 NIC) which I am going to use as a template and installed Windows Server 2008 R2 from an ISO image I downloaded from Microsoft.

- Installed Windows updates and made a couple minor customization i.e. disabled UAC, firewall, IE ESC etc.

- created new guest customization specification for Windows 2008 R2 with standard parameters

     Registration info...

Computer name - use Virtual Machine name

Product Key - blank (tried to use KMS key as well which did not make any difference)

Server license mode - per Seat. (tried without it as well)

Admin Password - Standard local admin password for my company

     Time Zone - GMT

     Run Once - empty

Join Workgroup (the template server is not on the domain)

     Generate SID.

- powered off VM

When I clone VM and use customization template it does not work. According to Tasks & Events it gets stuck at:

Started customization of VM test4. Customization log located at
C:\Windows\TEMP\vmware-imc\guestcust.log in the guest OS.

Exactly the same customization template works fine for Windows Server 2008 SP2.

What am I doing wrong?

SSO domain ID is does not match (vCenter Install/Linked Mode)

I installed vcenter 5.1 as VC01 using vcenter Sinple Install.. no problems.

When I try to install my second vcenter, I install the SSO, Inventory Service, and when installing vCenter server,

I select to install as a Linked mode... during the process, I get an error.

When I look at "status.txt" it shows:

Operation "Create replica instance VMwareVCMSDS" failed: Action: Prepare for joinproblem: Remote VC's VC01.mydomain.local SSO domain ID

is does not match. Recovering from failed operation "Create replica instance VMwareVCMSDS"

Any idea what is wrong here?

How to access Web-Client admin-app on vCenter Server 5 Appliance?

$

Hello Everybody,

as stated above I have troubles accessing the Web-Client admin-app on my vCenter Server 5 deployed via Appliance.

as mentioned here:

http://www.virtualizationadmin.com/articles-tutorials/vmware-esx-and-vsphere-articles/general/getting-starting-vsphere-5-web-client.html

you can access the Manamegemnt interface for Webclient via: https://localhost:9443/admin-app

since I dont have a Windows underneath and the Appliance does not allow command-line browsers like lynx I can't access it locally.

But when I try to manage it form another computer I get the error:

https://stxvsphere:9443/admin-app/assets/error.pngvSphere Web Client administration tool cannot be accessed from a remote host.

Therefore simple question: How can I access it?

Thanks in Advance,

aschneid

error: login to query service failed

I am trying to search using the search box in the very top right corner of the vsphere client.

Whey I type in the name of a server, it searches for a second and returns an error message:  error: login to query service failed

I restarted VC services. Restarted the Web component. This was working last week but not today.

Only thing that has changed was SP2 to SQL 2005 was applied.

anyone seen this and know how to fix it?

VMware VirtualCenter Server Service not starting

$

I've been fighting with this issue for a while now and haven't been able to find a solution - even with checking the posts on this forum.

I am running VMware vCenter Server 5.1.0.32743 on a Windows 2008R2 physical server (not on a domain). Whenever I make a hardware change (ie, adding a SCSI card) the VirtualCenter Server service (and also the VirtualCenter Management Webservices service) refuses to start.

When I remove the SCSI card the issue still persists and the only way for me to resolve so far is to restore the server from backup - obviously not ideal and I need to connect tape drives to this server.

servicenotstarting1.png

I get the standard event 1000 in event viewer also.

I have tried changing the service startup types so that SSO service comes up first (as suggested in one of the KB articles) but this has no effect.

The back end of the vpxd-xx.log file shows this:

If I try to go to that commandserver url in the log above in a browser, it also get a 404:

404.png

The only thing similar I can find online is here:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2036170

Very similar exception error but nothing similar in my discover-is.log file.

From that kb link above I have run the following command:

C:\Program  Files\VMware\Infrastructure\SSOServer\utils>ssocli.cmd configure-riat  -a discover-is -u admin -p <masterPassword>

And I get the following output which confirms the discover-is log:

cli.png

Netstat shows that port 7444 is opened by Java and nothing else. The other potential problem port (443) is not in use by anything else that it shouldnt be.

I suspect this may be the cause of the problem but I have no idea where to go next. Any suggestions would be greatly appreiciated.

Cannot create a 64 Bit DSN on Windows Server 2008 64bit SP2

I am attempting to install vCenter server 4.1 on a Windows Server 2008 64bit SP2 server.  When I get to the step in the installation where it asks for the DSN the installer can not find the DSN I have created and tells me to create a 64bit DSN.  I am using the ODBC data sources utility in adminstrative tools to create the DSN.  I have also attempted to create the DSN with the ODBC utility availiable inside the sysWOW64 directory.  During the DSN creation I am only given one choice for a driver:

Name: SQL Server     Version:6.00.6002.18005     Company: Microsoft Corporation     File: SQLSRV32.DLL     DATE: 4/11/2009

With the 32 in the file name that looks like it is a 32 bit driver.  Any ideas?  Thanks

On Windows 2012, has anyone created templates for this OS (VM)?

If so, what services did you remove, disable or install or what tweaks did you do to create a "Base" template?

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

error 26002. Setup failed to register VMware vCenter Server to VMware vCenter Inventory Service

Has anyone seen this error when upgrading vCenter Server from 5.0 to 5.1?

The install process for Single Sign On and Inventory Service appeared to complete successfully, but we see this error when we are most of the way through the vCenter Server install.

The vim-vcs-msi.log has these entries:

MSI (s) (A4:58) [17:27:07:017]: Invoking remote custom action. DLL: C:\Windows\Installer\MSID278.tmp, Entrypoint: VMRegisterWithIS

Error 26002.Setup failed to register VMware vCenter Server to VMware vCenter Inventory Service

MSI (s) (A4!54) [17:40:46:024]: Product: VMware vCenter Server -- Error 26002.Setup failed to register VMware vCenter Server to VMware vCenter Inventory Service

CustomAction VM_RegisterWithIS returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)

Action ended 17:40:46: InstallExecute. Return value 3.

vCenter 5.1 performance tab "no data available"

Hi All

I have a problem with the peformance tab not showing any data for VMs & hosts. I have done a fair bit of searching on this problem and not found an answer yet. My thoughts is that its a vCenter database problem because when I login directly to an ESXi host I can get the performance stats from the tab in question.

I have recently upgraded our three ESXi hosts from 5.0 to 5.1 build 838463 and created an new copy of vCenter 5.1 and connected the hosts to the new copy of vCenter. As far as I know the performace stats were working on 5.0 and looks like they have stopped working after the upgrade. I upgraded the hosts using update manager and installed the ISO image from Dell that included the VIB for hardware monitoring.

Environment:

3x Dell R710, 128GB RAM each

ESXi 5.1 Build 838463 Enterprise Plus

vCenter 5.1 build 880146 Standard

Please let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions, I have attached a screenshot of the graphs showing no data.

Regards,

Andrew

I am currently running VC 2.5 virtualized. WIndows 2003 SP2 with SQL Express 2005. Everytime I reboot the server I received Event ID 7024 - The VMware VirtualCenter Server service terminated with service-specific error 2 (0x2). Eventually I am able to manually start the service and everything is fine. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Thanks
